Our History

As the premier social enterprise operation in South Florida, Blue Box Solutions was born out of 60+ years of experience at Goodwill Industries of South Florida. Today, Goodwill South Florida employs over 3,000 team members and operates five separate lines of business providing diverse job opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment, including homelessness and those with lack of work experience. We provide a hand up and not a handout.

1959

Founded in 1959, Goodwill South Florida focused on creating job opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment through reselling donated goods to the local community using the hand up not hand out philosophy. Revenues generated from these sales are used to fund job training programs for disabled people in the local South Florida community.

1983

In 1983, the Commercial Services Division was our first foray into the social enterprise model of sustainable operations providing job opportunities for the people we serve. This also allowed us to provide dynamic and necessary solutions to our community businesses and partners. Today, our Commercial Services Division provides janitorial services for over 5M square feet of office space for local, state, and federal Government buildings in the South Florida region, as well as landscaping services.

1994

In 1994, Goodwill South Florida started its Apparel Manufacturing Division to provide additional employment opportunities for the local community, many of whom were immigrants from Latin America with sewing skills that were not otherwise marketable in the area. Currently, we employ over 850 team members manufacturing over $40M of military apparel annually for the US Department of Defense, one of our major partners since our inception in 1994. Over 75% of our workforce on these projects are people with a disability.

2012

Our Commercial Laundry Facility was established in 2012 to service our local hospital networks with reliable, energy and natural resource efficient, state-of-the-art equipment. We currently launder over 40M pounds of linens annually for all the major hospital networks in the South Florida region.

2018

In 2018, the idea for Blue Box Solutions was born. Amid skyrocketing growth in our E-commerce operations supporting our retail store operations, Goodwill South Florida partnered with the US military on two major programs to provide forward-leaning solutions. The first program was for a first-of-its-kind remanufacturing and repurposing of legacy ballistic vests into new, more compact designs. The second solution involved sourcing components and kitting complete Army dress uniforms sized and shipped direct to soldiers in support of the launch of their new uniform. The combination of our experience in moving product in and out of our retail business operations coupled with organic customer demand for 3PL solutions and the need to provide 21st century job training and opportunities for the local population we serve, Blue Box Solutions was created! The latest self-branded social enterprise solution provides our customers with a variety of logistics solutions, including warehousing, kitting, e-commerce fulfillment, remanufacturing, and product assembly. In 2020 and 2021, we managed over $40M in inventory for the US military in our existing warehouse facilities and provided value add services in support of that inventory. In 2022, we are increasing our footprint and expanding in first-rate warehouse space at Gateway Commerce Park in Miami Gardens, FL to support our continued growth.
